PRA is progressive retinal atrophy. It is genetic and there is no cure. According to the veterinary opthamologist we took Sky to, there is no pain. It can happen early, like with our pit bull Sky, who is totally blind at 14 months. It can happen mid life and it can happen in old age. It takes about six months or so to run its course. I'm no vet and no expert. but living with Sky has introduced me to many new things, the disease she has being one of them. You can find out more in Living With Blind Dogs by Caroline D. Levin. I recommend that book to anyone with a blind dog, or a dog that's going blind.
